How the Picot Edge Works:

The picot foot features a unique channel or groove on the underside, similar to a narrow hemmer foot, which gently rolls the raw edge of fabric into a tiny 1/8-inch hem. The foot works in conjunction with a wide zigzag stitch or specific picot/shell edge stitch setting. The left swing of the needle stitches into the fabric's rolled edge, while the right swing goes just off the folded edge, tacking down the rolled edge with a slightly tighter stitch. This combination creates the tension needed to pull the fabric edge into characteristic small scallops or points (picots), resulting in a delicate, elegant, self-finished decorative edge.

Using the Foot:

1. Fabric Preparation: Works best on lightweight, relatively stable fabrics (silk, batiste, fine cotton, sheer fabrics)
2. Stitch Setting: Set machine to wide zigzag stitch or picot/shell edge stitch if available
3. Guide and Roll: Feed fabric edge through the channel on underside of foot, which rolls the edge into a tiny 1/8" hem
