How It Works:

The foot works with your machine's zigzag stitch capability. First, lower or cover your feed dogs to keep the fabric stationary. Place the button in the foot's open slot, centered under the needle. Set your machine to zigzag stitch with zero stitch length, then adjust the stitch width so the needle cleanly enters each button hole without hitting the edges. Make 6-10 zigzag stitches to secure the button, then switch to straight stitch (width 0) and make a few stitches in one hole to lock the threads.

Creating a Thread Shank (Optional):

For thicker fabrics like coats or frequently used buttons, the small groove in the back of the foot allows you to place a toothpick or large needle across the top of the button before sewing. The machine stitches over this object, creating a raised thread shank that provides space for fabric layers when buttoned. Simply remove the toothpick after sewing is complete.
